Delicious dishes [dos]- Salsa Criolla

Well, I thought the Chupe de Camarones I had at Tito's restaurant last week was lovely but last night I had my first taste of proper home-made cooking and very kind peruvian hospitality- mil gracias Ceci para cocina de peruana- estupendo! With Annie & Lindsay in charge of the pisco sour and lemon squeezing, Ceci made Chicharron, Causa ala Limena and Salsa Criolla. It was utterly delicious!

The Chicharron is a mountain food from Cusco and involves frying pork 'cerdo' chunks in a heavy pan with a little water. The family secrets of the Causa ala Limena was not revealed on the night but I think it's yellow potato mashed and moulded in to a dough with added limon juice and a pepper called 'aji'- the tuna 'atun' with mayo in the middle makes it the most comforting delicious dish in the world.

The recipe for Ceci's Salsa Criolla:

1 large red onion, thinly sliced
1 fresh yellow red pepper, thinly sliced
4 tbsp fresh lime or limon juice
1/4 tsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp olive oil
2 tsp chopped fresh
Cilantro (coriander)

Ceci is from Cusco and a supporter of 'el papas'. Ceci has told me categorically that I have to support CS Cienciano!

I know what I'll be making this weekend! Your dinner last night sounds fab - I'm rather envious. Perhaps I'll experiment with some Peruvian cuisine when you next come round (although I can't promise it'll live up to Ceci's authentic home-cooking!) x

Apparently, the proper ingredients for peruvian cuisine are very hard to find here. I've no idea where you'd even buy yellow potatoes from- do you know of any peruvian deli's in londres!?

Lets do dinner soon missy milligan, even if it's not a delicious dish del peru! xx

In Bcn its not to hard to find certain peruvian foods -in the Bocaria market off the the Ramblas. The stall is called Puerto Latino.

Pisco is easy enough to get in Bcn but its often chilean (thats a good subject for your blog Peruvian v Chilean pisco). In London I managed to get peruvian pisco at a stomping £18 a bottle ( Berwick street)

I've just glimpsed at the pisco Peru v Chile debate and it's so deep rooted and complicated, even going back to the war of the pacific!

Of course peruvian pisco is the best!
