The indigenous Indians of the amazon are continuing to protest against the oil companies destroying their environment and damaging their health. They met with officials from Peru Petro in Lima - the state-run body which issues licences to foreign oil companies – but left without a resolution. They are appealing to the government to make the oil company concerned, Pluspetrol, re-inject the contaminated water back into the earth. The government has asked the company to re-inject 100%, but said it would not order the company to stop production even if it only pledges 20%. (see post september 13)
